Jonathon Conant
Jonathon Conant built his life around the belief that anything is possible and everyone can benefit when your dreams become reality. Raised by a pioneering psychologist father and opera star mother, Jonathon learned early that to understand human potential, you first need to have a deep understanding of human suffering.
Jonathon traveled the world seeking programs that would refine his insight and strengthen his approach to helping others. In his early 20s Jonathon was hired to counsel and treat schizophrenics struggling with psychotic breakdowns and he assisted them on and through progressive independent living environments. He went on to work with battered woman, abandoned children, Substance Abuse and finally, in his late 20’s, created and ran a program for head injured teens.
In his 30s, inspired by Issac Asimov’s Foundation series, Jonathon turned his attention to working with social structures. He trained in conflict resolution and nonviolent communication, taking a position as a resolution counselor for a community of over two thousand in the North East. Jonathon managed and trained a team of counselors while continuing to study and run resolution sessions
Running concurrently with his human development, Jonathon followed many passions. He is a published singer/songwriter who also performed professionally as a singer and dancer, and he loves to build living spaces that feel welcoming as well as awe inspiring.
Music being a main theme, Jonathon has been signed for an EP by Charisma Records (a subsidiary of Atlantic), recorded and performed with several bands including a major trance event ensemble, run two recording studios of his own making focusing on independent artists and third world music and has been credited with launching the US recording success of at least 2 third world acts.
In his 40’s, Jonathon found the love of flying trapeze. He explains that flying combines his passion for helping others and his pleasure of performing into an activity that is mythological, exciting and fun.
Jonathon was “kidnapped” to a Club Med vacation where he was introduced to flying for the first time. He returned home hoping to find a place to continue learning but there were no programs available. He dropped every thing, bought a flying rig, and with the help of many talented people, eventually opened a school for flying in Upstate New York.
He took what he learned there and co-founded Trapeze School New York, which eventually grew to 8 locations in 5 states including New York City, Chicago, Washington DC, Boston and Los Angeles. TSNY has been called one of the great outdoor adventures by OUTSIDE Magazine, A NYC GEM by the New Yorker, and has been on SEX AND THE CITY and Modern Family, as well as hundreds of other broadcasts.
Jonathon has been traveling the world with his wife Christine Van Loo (see WWW.ChristineVanLoo.com) sharing their love of the arts since they were married in Paris in 2010.
In 2014, after training hundreds of staff and thousands of students, having the luck and the pleasure of talent scouting, training and encouraging a few fantastic personal and professional careers, and getting the opportunity to perform as a flyer and catcher, Jonathon decided to semi retire.
Nowadays, he is building Airborne Arts at Aerial Avalon, a retreat center for the training of flying trapeze and aerial arts, situated in the mountains of South-West Costa Rica, surrounded by waterfalls and ocean with yet one more dream to attain.
Jonathon still plays, writes and sings music, enjoying the opportunity to perform for and with his friends. He is director, producer and performer in Cabaret Noir.
