Airborne Arts is in the mountains mid-way between Playa Dominical and San Isidro. From our property you can see a 900 foot waterfall (the tallest in Costa Rica), the ocean in the distance and a lush valley. A plethora of tropical birds such as toucans make our property their home.
We are close to many adventures and excursions such as rappelling falls to waterfall caves, surfing, horseback riding, tours to local organic farms and to meet local artisans. We strongly suggest a visit to Manuel Antonio National Park, one of the most famous tourist areas in Costa Rica offering championship surf tournaments, hiking, rafting/kayaking, canopying, sports fishing and more.

Citizen of the US, Canada, and Panama may enter Costa Rica with a passport that remains valid at least 6 months after your travel date.
A valid passport allows American, Canadian, as well as most Latin American, and European citizens to stay for up to 90 days. Citizens of other countries may require a visa to enter Costa Rica.
Processing times to get a passport are generally 4-6 weeks but there are expedited services for an additional fee.
Before you go to Costa Rica, make a copy of your passport, and carry with you at all times.
Costa Rica offers a 90-day tourism visa. When you depart your home country, your airline may require that you have a roundtrip ticket. [Airline carriers are being held responsible for incoming tourists who do not have pre-arranged departure within 90-days.] When you are with the customs agent, you will be asked about what day you are departing. It's best to have a clear answer and a copy of your return itinerary. Also important, check the stamp that is given to you and make sure the date on the stamp aligns with your departure date.
If you plan to stay in Costa Rica for more than 90-days, we recommend buy a roundtrip ticket for within 90-days. Then, after you arrive, change the date and pay the change-of-ticket-fee (about $150 for international tickets). As always, regulations are changing, so please also do your internet research on this subject.
TRAVEL INSURANCE
We recommend securing your own travel and medical insurance during the duration of your trip to protect yourself from any unforeseen circumstances such as unforeseen illness, injury, job loss, inclement weather and more.

If you are the type of person that likes to move around, we strongly suggest that you rent a car during your stay with us. See further details below. Please note that you will be responsible for all transporation costs during your trip. That said we have several transportation options listed for you.
FLYING TO COSTA RICA
The international airport you fly into is SJO in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Upon arriving to SJO you will go through customs. Customs can vary from 10 minutes to an hour so take this into consideration when planning.
The $29 departure tax at SJO is being fazed out so check with your airline first to see if you must pay it. Usually you don't have to. If you are required to pay it then we recommend that you pay it with cash, because payments by credit cards will usually be deemed as credit card cash advances, which can incur additional transaction fees.
If you arrive in the country late afternoon or evening, we recommend you spend the night in San Jose and travel in the morning. Hopper (commuter) flights (if you so choose to take at our recommendation) only run during the earlier part of the day, ending between 1:30pm and 3:30pm (varying throughout the year).
Please note that if you choose not to rent a car, which you can do from SJO or from Manuel Antonio/Quepos Airport or from Domincal, then you will be responsible for taxi transportation costs to and from places within your trip.
HOTELS NEAR SJO AIRPORT
If you spend the night in San Jose, here are some hotels that we like:
• Hotel Aeropuerto - 4 kilometers from the airport. Has a free taxi ride to/from, a restaurant, a pool and free breakfast. Make sure that the taxi you take is orange and that you confirm first with the driver that the hotel will pay the taxi fare.
• Hotel Brilla Sol - about 2 and half miles from the airoprt. Free shuttle to the hotel. http://www.hotelbrillasol.com
• Hotel Villas Colibri - about 7-10 minutes from the airport. Free ride to and from the hotel. http://www.villascolibri.co
There are also many airport hotels to choose from: Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Marriot. They all have airport shuttles and continental breakfasts.
GETTING FROM SJO AIRPORT TO AIRBORNE ARTS

Hopper flight. Our favorite option for its ease, quickness and breathtaking views. On your return, we suggest taking a commuter flight out in the morning or early afternoon from Quepos/Manuel Antonio to SJO then catching a later international flight. Airlines suggest that you check in 2 hours prior to your departure. Please keep this in mind while scheduling transportation.

Yes, we will match you up with a roomie. Part of the fun is meeting new friends with similar interests.
If available, then absolutely. Come early and/or leave later to have even more time to explore the local area. Inquire on rates.
You can just bring US dollars. Colones are the official currency of Costa Rica, although US dollars are accepted everywhere so Americans will not need to convert money (however, expect your change to be in colones).
Bring smaller bills of $20 or less rather than larger ones as they are easier to cash. Make sure that your bills are clean without tears or too much wear as the ticos are very picky and suspicious about their bills and reject those that they don’t like. Don't bring Travelers cheques. Almost no one will take them. American Express and Discover cards are seldom accepted. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted, but some restaurants and shops only take cash (did I mention that we like cash too. ;-))
The current rate of exchange fluctuates around 500 colones for every 1 US dollar.
The closest ATM is about a 45 minute drive and typically has long lines. Bring your passport/ID along with you in order to make any bank transactions. Bring a book too or an Ipod – anything to pass the time. But better yet just bring enough cash.
Items and activities purchased and organized through Airborne Arts can be charged to your room and paid via paypal at the end of your stay (or you can pay in cash and see how impressively wide our smiles can get ;-D). The amount of local currency that you need depends on how much you intend to spend on extra purchases outside of the property.

Pack lightly.
NOTE: Local hopper flights allow 30lbs for a suitcase and 10lbs for a carry-on. Additional weight costs extra.
Traveling backpack + a tiny backpack for adventures.
• Driver’s license, credit card, business cards.
• A valid passport (your passport must not be due to expire sooner than 6 months from entry date into Costa Rica).
• Cash (US dollars are accepted everywhere).
• Simple, lightweight casual clothing. A couple pairs of roughing it shorts that can get wet and dry fast, lightweight pants, tee shirts and tank tops, sarong.
• Shoes that can get wet like cheap sneakers for adventures and hiking, and all terrain sandles or flip flops. High heeled shoes will go to the bottom of your suitcase or get stuck in the forest. Better leave them at home.

Spanish is the official language of Costa Rica, although English is widely understood.
Costa Rica is on Central Standard Time. It does not use daylight saving time – which means that when there is daylight saving time in the US, then Costa Rica is on MST (2 hours behind EST).
Costa Rica's summer coincides with North America's winters, which means you can get the hell out of dodge when you start turning into a popsicle. Costa Rica's year round climate generally ranges from the mid 60s to the low 90s. We are situated in the mountains so the breezes keep it very comfortable.
Costa Rica has two seasons – the “green” season (May-Nov) and dry season (Dec.-April). Generally it's beautiful every day. During the “green” it typically rains in the mid-afternoons but it is still sunny and lush and hot during this season and the waterfalls are full, flowers are blooming and the land is at its most verdant. October and November are the rainiest months on average and in October, the peak of the rainy season, rains can last all day long. There's not really a bad time to come here.
Costa Rica does not typically get hurricanes.

We have a good Internet connection in the main house, which often stretches down to the aerial deck. Because we live in a remote area, the connection can go out at times so if you’re trying to run your business it will take very careful planning. Guests are asked to bring their own laptops, iphones, or ipads.
If you’re running a business then do this:
If you have an unlocked phone, you can buy a local SIM card with Hotspot and set up hotspot on your phone. This will provide better and more consistent service than using the main house wifi. We’re able to run our business so if you plan well you should be able to continue running yours.
Skype and email may be the most economical way to brag to friends back home about how you’re in paradise while they’re still at home.
If you wish to bring your cellphone, the most convenient way to make international calls is by purchasing Costa Rican calling cards, which can be purchased at the International airport as well as most supermarkets. You can also check with your cell phone carrier to see if it offers roaming in Costa Rica; however, this can be an expensive option
We do not have a land line.
No televisions. However, we do watch movies on a big screen .
All outlets are 110v, the same as in North America.
Guests will be served scrumptious mostly vegetarian meals. We put an emphasis on fresh produce. Fish and meat may be served on occasion. Please know that non-allergic products are not easily available in Costa Rica. We are not set up to deal with life threatening food allergies so, if you have one, be prepared to monitor and manage this.
Our indoor kitchen is a working kitchen for the chef so not available for use by guests. You’ll find that we supply way more food than people can eat, including snacks.

No. In fact, we ask our guests to avoid eating anything in their rooms. Be warned. This is the jungle; if you bring food to your room you will experience an Indiana Jones episode. :-)
Yes. Enjoy some of the cleanest water in the world from the tap. The tap water is drinkable almost everywhere in the country.
Yes, we offer a laundry service to our guests. The charge is $8 per load to wash, dry and fold.
For safety reasons we don’t allow candles or incense burning in the accommodations.
It is safe to travel in Costa Rica, even single women are safe to travel here. There is hardly any violent crime. Although Costa Rica is the safest country in Central America (and we have heard the happiest country in the world too) there is petty crime so keep a close eye on your belongings. Leave your valuables at home and while here don't leave any of your belongings visible or unguarded. We are not responsible for any stolen personal belongings on the premises. Valuables can be stored in our safety box. Thievery is common in tourists areas but extremely uncommon in our area. Costa Rica's health system rates better internationally than in the US.
Check your bedding and your shoes before putting them on to avoid disturbing any critters. You do't have to worry about malaria here. You don't need any shots. While walking in nature just be aware of where you’re stepping. Will you be eaten by a jaguar? No, but this is the rain forest and there are creatures who defend themselves with bites and stings. Extremely rare but can be serious: Snake bites (in fact we have only heard stories) and spider bites (though you may see some very large, hairy ones). Rare but not serious unless you are allergic: Bees and furry caterpillars. Not so rare: Moquitos, noseeums, and ants. If you spend any time outdoors, this will all be normal for you. If you spend no time outdoors.....welcome to the outdoors.

The warm ocean water feels amazing all year round.
The waterfalls are cool and refreshing, perfect after a jungle hike.
We also have a refreshing dipping pool.

Flying trapeze - Work out clothes that you can move freely in that are not too loose - yoga pants, leggings, tights, snug sweat pants. Wearing shorts can be a bit rough on the backs of the exposed knees. Long hair tied back. Socks or barefoot.
Aerial silks - Important to cover your midriff area and your legs to avoid skin abrasions. The best way to do this is to wear a unitard or leotard with leggings, tights, or form fitting work out pants that end at your ankles. Guys are welcome to do the same along with a dance belt. Or if you wear a shirt and gym pants alone make sure that the shirt is long enough to tuck in securely, and know that it can come untucked and that you can get a fabric burn. Another way to securely cover your waist if you want to wear a shirt and leggings alone is to buy a body shaper like a waist corset (Spanx). You can find them in the women’s lingerie section at Target or Macy’s. A shirt that covers your underarms is also recommended. Bare feet. Remove all jewelry. No moisturizer.
Partnering acrobatics - Exercise clothes that you can move in. Shorts and fitting exercise shirts are best. Barefoot. Hair tied back.

We aren't really cultivating work/trade relationships with folks as there is an awesome work force here and we love supporting this community but, if something comes up, we'll let you know via a newsletter.
As much as we love animals we don't allow pets here.
There is a plethora of beauty and adventure around us. The property itself overlooks Diamante Falls, Costa Rica's tallest waterfall. It has a cave behind the falls for sleeping. Just a 5-7 minute drive from us with a 25 minute hike to it you will find one of most beautiful waterfalls on the planet - Nauyaca Falls. Jump into the falls, swim or just enjoy the pure jungle beauty of it. We are wishing 45 minutes to several gorgeous coconut tree lined beaches. Enjoy swimming or surfing in the warm ocean or laying on the sandy shore. In addition there are rivers near us and other waterfalls to rappel and with pools to swim in. One hour and fifteen minutes away is Manuel Antonio National Park. Enjoy its beaches or enter the park to see monkeys, sloths and other jungle creatures. Go paragliding, whale watching, horseback riding, white water rafting, snorkeling, zip lining, stand up paddling and much much more. Click here for more options.
